Spam submissions in Sitefinity almost always happen when no CAPTCHA or bot protection is present. Which is why we highly recommend adding reCAPTCHA to all forms.
Google reCAPTCHA
Google reCAPTCHA is a Form widget to require the Web user to check a checkbox to ensure they are a human being and not a robot. It replaces the previous CAPTCHA widget, where the Web user would type the characters that appeared in an image, as Google reCAPTCHA complies with Web Accessibility standards. Below you can see how to add Google reCAPTCHA to a form and how it will appear to a Web user when they fill out a form.
Add Google reCAPTCHA to a Form
To add Google reCAPTCHA to a Form, follow these steps: 1. Access the Form Editor by creating a new form or editing an existing one. 2. Find the “Google reCAPTCHA” widget in the list of widgets to the right, and click and drag it on to the Form Editor. The ideal location for a Google reCAPTCHA widget is just above the form “Submit” button. Note the appearance of the widget on the form may display an error message or may be blank – this is normal, and the widget will function on the front-end of the Web site when it is published. 3. When done editing the form, click Publish to save the widget on the form. 4. View the form on the front-end of the site to verify the widget is in place.
Appearance of Google reCAPTCHA
The following are the appearances of Google reCAPTCHA on a form. Upon first accessing a form on a page, it will appear unchecked with no message. When the form is filled out and the Submit button is pressed without checking the Google reCAPTCHA checkbox, the following message will appear.
If the widget is unable to validate the Web user at first, a grid of photos will be presented for which they need to select the requested item among them.
Once the Web user has been validated, a checkmark will appear in the widget.
If the checkmark appears but the form Submit button is not pressed soon after, the validation will expire and display the following error message, prompting the Web user to recheck the box.
