Sitefinity offers multiple ways to organize and display images, most commonly through Image Libraries and Image Galleries. While both options store and showcase visual assets, they serve different purposes and behave differently.
An Image Gallery is usually a page-level or widget-level display of images. It is intended to:
- Visually present selected images on a page
- Create a user-facing gallery or slideshow
- Control how images appear to end users
Important: A gallery does not organize or store the original files—it simply displays images already saved in a Library.
Use Image Galleries for:
- Visual displays on a webpage
- Slideshows, carousels, or featured image sections
- Marketing- or design-driven layouts
For content teams working collaboratively, the recommended practice is to create a folder inside an existing Image Library and then share the direct link to that folder on your webpage.
