Linking Directly to a Document or File or Update a Link(s) to a Document or List of Documents
Follow these steps to manually link to a document or file:
- Locate the Document
- Go to the Documents & Files list page.
- Check the box left of the file of interest. Under Actions for the desired document or file, click Embed link to this file.
- Copy the Link
- A popup window will appear.
- Highlight and copy the link from the text box.
Note: You can only link to published items.
-
Update the Domain
- Paste the link into a separate text editor (i.e., notepad)
- Replace "cms.tri-admin.com" with your website’s domain name, prefixed with www.
Example: "www.modental.org"
-
Use the Edited URL
- Copy the updated URL. This can now be used anywhere you need to manually link to the document or file.
- Then retest to make sure the link works.
Best practice recommendation:
If you are sharing a link to a document that you will distribute:
- Create a Web page that is not shown in the navigation of the site (see: Remove a page from the menu navigation)
- and place the link to the document on that page.
Why? Because if the document changes, you’d need to send out a new link. It also creates a smoother user experience—they can simply click the link and be prompted to log in instead.
